Winter to Spring - Vintage at its best

I've mentioned before that I'm a big fan of vintage and second hand shopping, but since vintage shops became so much more available, it lost a bit of its thrill for me (Contrary?!? ME?!?). Plus with so much beautiful repro stuff about, it just became easier to pick something that I knew was available in my size and not try to wrestle my chicken wings into arm holes made for someone with the toned arms that only twin tubs and a mangle can achieve.

Despite this, there's nothing like knowing that you have a one off, plus (with the exception of my arms), I have a pretty "traditional" shape, which modern retailers don't cater for quite as well as the seamstresses of the 1950s/60s.

THEREFORE, I've decided that, rather than treating vintage/second hand shops as the source for disposable fashion as I have in the past, I'm going to try and invest in "key pieces" when I see them. Coats, handbags, dresses that I will wear over and over again (I've already achieved this with a PERFECT lace dress bought in Leeds last year). And that, my friends, is where we come to this beautiful coat:

I'd gone into Mooch Vintage for a nosy after it relocated from a side street to its new prime location on Division Street. WHAT A SELECTION. Each item seems to have been picked for its quality and the range in sizes is something I've not seen for such a long time. Plus, and this cannot be under appreciated, the fabulous owners know their stock (hence me leaving with a beaded shawl for my MIL which weighs more than she does and that she will adore) and greet every browser with such warmth and care that there's no way you could not go back. Whilst there, I tried on an entirely banging dress with a frilled collar which I swear I would have worn every second until I died but sadly the arm thing happened. Then I tried on this coat.

It has cropped raglan sleeves (LOVE), funnel neck (LOVE LOVE) and falls at mid calf (DIES FROM LOVE). I've been looking for a long coat in a lighter colour to wear as the seasons change and this ticks all the boxes. This coat is absolutely immaculate, I find it hard to believe that it's ever been worn.

What's your greatest second hand find? I'd love to find the perfect vintage LBD with sleeves, I'm hoping that Sheffield will provide!
